- You should also check all the demos that appear in the category "alternative party (2003)", not only "alternative party 4 (2003)", because due to some mixup here and there the demo entries are spread in two different party entries :'(
Viznut's VIC20 demo that arrived #1 is in the right category (Alternative Party), while our Oric demo and some other like the Hwr2 are in the wrong one (Alternative Party 4).
Try the other please, some are nice !

- I will not put a "sucks" symbol, because I believe that there are a lot of very bad demos. That one was simply looonnnngggg to watch during the party place.
Anyway, for Chaos that wrote "best alt party release so far", you should know that there are some mistakes in pouet.net registrations... some entries were put in "Alternative Party (2003)" and some were put in "Alternative Party 4 (2003)".
I hope that someone will be able to correct all these mistakes.
For information, the #1 place demo is Viznut's VIC20 demo, and is in "Alternative 4 (2003)" party entry, while our own #2 place Oric demo is in "Alternative (2003)" party entry.
What a mess.

- demo Oric Barbitoric by Defence Force [web]
- raver: it has a AY soundchip (same than on MSX, Amstrad, Spectrum+ or Atari ST).
Concerning emulators, well, I finally updated the "barbitoric.zip" file, so it now includes a pre-configurated windows version of Euphoric, just a batch file to launch to run the demo.
Concerning the love/hate factor about emulators, since there is no way to make advanced screen trickery on the oric (no VSync, no sprites, no color changes, no split screen, hardscroll or overscan...), the emulator is pretty accurate compared to real thing.
The main differences are due to the fact that a 70hz VGA screen give a different result than a 50hz blurry TV :)

- Optimus: If you want to learn more about video mode limitation, you should check the page I wrote on the AltParty wiki:
http://www.altparty.org/~altwiki/cgi-bin/wiki.cgi?action=Browse&id=_Oric_
I guess it will answer most of your questions.
A 6502 based ZX Spectrum is not necessarily the most powerful machine in the world ;)

- Since some people asked me (on IRC) where they could find the emulators, here is a link:
http://oric.free.fr/emulator.html
Simply unzip the "Euphoric099.zip" somewhere on your harddrive, put the "barbitoric.dsk" file in the "disks" folder you will find in the emulator directory, and to make things easier (no need to deal with emulator functionalities), create a small batch file in the euphoric main directory (where "euphoric.exe" can be found) that contains the following command:
euphoric.exe -d disks\barbitoric.dsk
Now simply run that batch file to run the demo. To quit the emulator use F10.

- Well, this is an ORIC demo, it means you need an ORIC emulator to watch it. For Windows there is EUPHORIC, and there is also a Linux version of that emulator.
An important thing to know is that since Euphoric is a DOS emulator, it will have trouble under Windows 2000 to get the sound. Installing VDMS will do it ! - isokadded on the 2003-01-14 23:47:02
- demo Windows raw confessions by Cocoon [web]
- It maked by Windows 2k core dumps at first attempt, but after some 30.82 patching it worked fine. This is a very kewl demo, that actually uses my hardware so that's nice.
I'm bored to see games that routinely use my hardware in a nicest way than most recent demos (NoOneLiveForever 2 has awesomely detailed characters with finely crafted textures), so that one at least restore the balance.
Loading time is boring anyway ;)
