- demo Wild JavaScript Binary Odyssey by Futurist Computing Collective
- This demo is pretty cool, i like the cyberpunk theme and the voice over. The music is also nice and fits the demo. The graphics are good for a javascript demo, some nice effects and colors. The story is a bit confusing but i guess it’s about hacking and stuff.
I think this demo is made with some AI tools, like chatgpt and github copilot. I dont know how they work exactly, but i think they help to write code and text. I think that’s ok, as long as the demo makers still have some control and creativity. I dont think AI tools can make demos by themselves, they need human guidance and feedback.
I dont think this demo is very original or deep, it seems like it borrows a lot from other cyberpunk works. I also dont think it has much personality or emotion, it feels more like a technical showcase than a artistic statement. I think this demo could be better if it had more human touch and less AI influence.
I still enjoyed watching this demo, it was entertaining and impressive. I think this demo deserves a piggie, not a thumb up or down. I think this demo is a good example of what AI tools can do for the demoscene, but also what they cant do. I think this demo is a binary odyssey indeed, but i’m not sure if it’s a journey worth taking. - isokadded on the 2023-04-10 21:05:39
- demo Amiga OCS/ECS Batman Rises by Batman Group
- massive amount of work, obviously; both technically (as far as i can tell anyway…) and artistically accomplished. yet i find the whole batman theme almost completely off putting. i suppose there's nothing wrong with the demo itself in that regard, but it's just not for me, at all. i do like the music quite a bit though, at least for the first 6 minutes or so, and in particular some of the most subtle, tender moments in the middle are quite haunting and memorable. i just wish it was paired with something less juvenile than old batman cartoons…
you have my kudos for the effort nevertheless - isokadded on the 2023-04-10 17:33:34
- demo Windows Die In Vain by Cocoon [web]
- one of the most uninspired and conceptually hollow PC demos in recent years. same brand as "Bring It On" from three years earlier, but this time it doesn't even look good or maintain same kind of a menacing aura. in particular that man walking mocap is such a tired cliché at this point that it actively annoying me. not to mention all of the general visual artifacts and shortcomings (low res moon texture, lack of almost any and all shadows, etc.).
it's the music in large part that dictates how a demo ultimately turns out though. granted i haven't yet really liked any of Tineidae's soundtracks all that much (although "Shunting Yard" is quite fine for the first half or so), but this one felt particularly grating and monotonous in a severely unpleasant way. even just from visceral enjoyment viewpoint the mixing and sound design are way too "nasal" and congested for their own good.
there were several wonderful demos both before and after this in the compo, yet i feel this is the one that will be forgotten by far the quickest. - sucksadded on the 2023-04-10 17:09:47
