- demo Windows Project Avarus by Pyrotech
- cheesy as it is and obviously far from perfect, this is still the Pyrotech demo with by far the most heart and intent behind it. even the flaws are kind of charming and endearing. it's as if i feel like i can tell the state of mind, the place and time in which this was made. i stand behind my 16 year old self's thumb.

- demo Windows Echoes of the Mainframe by Pyrotech
- a definite improvement over some previous iterations, but what are we doing here, really? a smattering of very safe, generic cyberpunk tropes thrown into a blender. what's the intrigue? certainly not pacing and editing that seem to deliberately try to mismatch the music (which itself is frustratingly limp and forgettable) in every conceivable way. it's as if there's no script whatsoever, but just a sequence of events that occur (someone releases 'butterfly' of some sort, it flies away, the person rides away, picks up the butter fly again, rides some more, gets off, walks away with other identical unidentifiable characters as if on a catwalk), but there's no narrative coherence or a throughline that assigns any meaning to… anything. perplexingly shallow in a way that the feeling overrides everything else going on for me.
assuming at least the graphics assets are primarily custom made for the demo, i can at least respect that, but considering this is still content-wise extremely hollow, and i can't even give props for putting together a decent looking 3D rendering pipeline, i'm kinda running out of anything positive to say. again, some of the ingredients are neat enough, but the presentation is woefully inadequate.
Quote:See if anyone would actually download demos to watch them, "UnrealGame-Win64-Shipping.exe" would be a clue.
tbh the awful unreal engine lens flares should already be a big enough clue to involved with (or even regularly watching) modern high end PC demos, or just modern graphics rendering in general - isokadded on the 2025-08-10 15:54:28

- keep doing your thing, but i found myself oddly disinterested and a bit bored but this this time around… i guess the novelty is starting to wear thin for me

- demo Windows Fast Forward II - Encore by Doomsday
- some decently nice looking parts, but i also expect more from Notch demos. not really sure at what level of seriousness i should be watching this… :)
a worthy spiritual successor to Ekspert demos, however! - isokadded on the 2025-08-04 19:17:52
- demo MS-Dos/gus Oedema animae cogunt by Rustbloom
- stellar. while i loved all of the DOS demos in the compo, this one stands out to me despite being the "lowest end" out of all of them. the concept and execution thereof are so tight and inventive. the high-res 1-bit visuals are just irresistible. only the music is perhaps a slightly strange choice—not entirely to my taste—but its heavy, morose, even somewhat sacrosanct tone is still surprisingly fitting.
like said, personal favorite, and definitely should've made it into the top-3 among the other DOS demos. - rulezadded on the 2025-08-03 16:16:54
- demo MS-Dos MS-Dos/gus Demoded by 7dUMP & SandS [web]
- what a blast, straight out of 1994, one of the three absolutely massive DOS demos in the compo. full of finesse and attention to detail, and super tight pacing and editing. aesthetics on point, loved it all the way.
and not to be needlessly provocative, but this honestly wipes the floor with all amiga demos from recent years, which is all the more impressive considering that there have been some solid amiga demos in recent times too. glad to see DOS getting some love after a while again :) - rulezadded on the 2025-08-03 16:11:44
