- demo Windows fr-021: D (Stands For) by Farbrausch [web]
- This kindof sucked, but at the same time it has that nice visualice feel. Also a few scenes were really good, and the 2d rules as ever, so i guess this somehow pulls off a rulez despite sucking.

- Shane??
The prod is nice, but too short. The 3d was really nice, so were the transitions, and the tune was good too. Looking forwards to the next episode! - rulezadded on the 2004-08-14 15:51:27
- demo Windows we cell by Kewlers [web]
- very very nice use of particles. And i like the overlays too.. although the typography could have been improved, and they could have been more orange and yellow. I'm sure i saw some reference to the ibiza experience in there too... but i can't rememer what it was.
So... great demo, one of the best at asm. Should have come 2/3 for me after the asd demo, but still perhaps the best kewlers demo yet.
And what the hell is wrong with LOD for textures btw? LOD can be used for a lot of stuff, not just polies, and yes, mip mapping is one type of LOD for textures. Reversing the mip map levels would give you a depth of field like this, but i don't think thats how this demo was done, the quality of the blur looked somehow higher. - rulezadded on the 2004-08-13 17:32:40
- 64k Windows The Prophecy - Project Nemesis by Conspiracy [web]
- same thing here... the city looks blocky in a strange way when it should be blurred at 640x480, but at higher res is looks nicely blurred. ALso, i noticed on higher res that you see some very nice film grain / dust effects at the beginning... not sure if its visible at lower res or if i just didn't notice.
The intro rules apart from a few very small things, like there being no damage to the buildings after the meteors hit... add some damage, or hide it with smoke as crusader said. The tree z-fighting was only slight on my machine... maybe its a driver/hardware thing? - rulezadded on the 2004-08-13 16:42:58
- demo Linux Windows obsoleet by Unreal Voodoo [web]
- i guess the idea was ok, the execution could have been better, but it wasn't bad (although the last scene was notably jerky). But somehow the whole thing left me feeling that it was a bit crap... a bit too sentimental in a cheesy way perhaps. And why does the girl have shades on while she's coding the pc?? does she not know you can buy monitor filters? or does she have a hangover and she's coding at the party?

- diskmag Windows Hugi #29 - The Blue One by Hugi [web]
- I'd give EP's article a double thumb up, because it was damn funny. Here's a quick summary for those who can't be bothered:
Stop making demos, join the animation scene and make anims instead.
Stop making intros, join the shareware game scene and make shareware games instead.
Stop making 4k/256b etc. and join the screensaver scene, and make screensavers instead.
And that's the proposed strategy for SAVING the scene =D
The rest of hugi 29... well the gfx were alright, but not so good as they could be and not so good as they once were. Music was the same. Articles I've only looked very quickly at except the EP one which was great... but it looks not so great either. So thumb down. - sucksadded on the 2004-08-12 13:25:16
- demo Windows come clean by Fairlight [web]
- liked the style, and the hand at the end looked amazing. The shoe was alright... just had some lighting issues. Also, scratching synced objects rule. Keep going with the cool style prods!

- 1k Windows 1k-sw-raytrace'em all by Tristar & Red Sector Inc. [web]
- makes my nice fast intel-based workstation look very very slow. Maybe one day i'll have an amd machine, and then this will probably get a thumb up.

- i'm thinking that if more people took psycadelic substances in a serious way, more people would understand this. Goa != psycadelic!

- demo Windows Planet Risk by Andromeda Software Development [web]
- i always get the same impression with asd prods: that they made 5 demos, then somehow put all the scenes and effects into a single 5 minute prod. Always loads on the screen, always impressive stuff too, and i liked this one plenty in general. The tune is not for me tho either, although i liked parts of it.
And I have a solution for the problem of 2nd place demos that should have won: drop the prize for 1st place, and make space for a 4th place prize. - rulezadded on the 2004-08-11 16:40:42
