- Ok some words about the production.
First the file size.
the zipped file is 4,08 MB. there is 2,65 MB used for deck's cool mp3. 1,30 MB is used for png image data, and i agree it is too much. remenber however that a 1024*768*24bpp image takes 2,25 MB uncompressed. jpeg compression would have been more appropriated for the 2 logos by kenet, the main design and the texture. 1 MB could have been saved on this side, but 3,08 MB would have been stil too much for some users. I am sorry i had to code the demosystem behind this small production from 0 in a hurry, with more time i would have had added jpeg support.
About the code.
many people have been complaining about the speed of the code (mostly gf1, gf2 users, no comment). i recognize that the effect is particulary slow on my tnt2 video card. however, the effect is "shader intensive". the technic used isn't dot3 bump mapping, but fake emboss bump mapping, which can be performed by a larger number of 3d cards than dot3 bump mapping. the rendering uses 2 passes. There is a noticable speed gain when updating drivers to the latest 40.72 detonator drivers. However, i get the effect smooth on my old ati radeon SDR video card, so ATI users might not suffer from speed issues. Some people pointed out the fact that the bump comes and goes. It is "normal", i used a small trick to save a few cpu cycles which is to perform the bump effect only on faces that face the light in 3d space.
To conclude, i'm glad to see that stefan took a good resolution and showed us all his skills here. He will probably rank very high in the "most hated scener chart", but will he beat lator? check out the world charts 15 for answer, and, don't forget to vote! - isokadded on the 2002-10-20 20:17:48
- diskmag Windows pain #52 (11/02) by Pain Staff [web]
- nice one, sweet music ;)
however, there a bug. task switching doesn't seems to be handled correctly, which made my winxp crash with a nice blue screen ;/
looking forward to next issue.. 53.. respect.. ;) - rulezadded on the 2002-10-19 12:03:33

- musicdisk Windows Twisted Chipster #1 by Fairlight [web]
- Very nice musicdisk ;) good work guys, congratulations.
However some small details make it's not perfect ;) :
- a tune-playing progress indicator ?
- an option to loop a tune forever (so that i can listen continuously to "Summer parks" by maktone without having to press play every 2"43 ;) ?
- as it was said in the thread already, the musicdisk swallows 70% of my cpu calculation power even when it's minimized. any idea to solve this pantaloon?
that's all for now,
have a nice day - rulezadded on the 2002-10-17 20:49:19

- musicdisk Windows razor 1911 chipdisc2 by Razor 1911 [web]
- hmm the music is quite good in this chipdisk.
for some reason every new production by razor made arround IZM looks crap, it's a fact. by the way, remove that scroller next time, i guess it's useless when it is used to display uterelly silly things like:
"I hope you enjoy this disk from the heroes behind razor1911."
You know as well as me that no one in the current razor1911 is a hero, except sector9. - sucksadded on the 2002-09-30 17:52:10
