- I do get the SMB-vibe but the controls are just not great, the character feels Mario-levels of slippery (one of the great things Meat Boy does so well is that the character has amazing traction so you never slip off an edge) and the gravity + the character not jumping high enough doesn't provide great in-air control; check INK for a relatively simply but tight implementation of the same mechanics. the level design isn't great either, I mostly wish the saws would vary in speed relative to each other so you could wait until they phase in a way that you can make a jump, and particularly in the first part it took me minutes during the live presentation to figure out that the wall that has the same pattern and mostly the same colour as the background is actually a wall you can walljump on.

it's decent 128b, but considering how much of it is derivative from lucy, it shouldn't have won 1st place imho
That "how much" is very little. The soundtrack itself is worth the win. - rulezadded on the 2019-09-16 20:17:56

- That dragon mesh is kindof awesome, but the lighting/scene setup is a bit lackluster, and I think once you've seen enough of the mesh the novelty is a bit over - I don't envy the situation of trying to make something like this because it is a one-trick pony and the trick can only be stretched for so long, but I think with lighting tricks (shadows on the wall, non-revealing closeup on the scales - kinda like how the film did it) it could've been a much more interesting tension curve.

- Proper noisy; the visual quality lags behind the aural assault quite a bit, but in the end it was nice to have a demo compo where entries just got gradually louder and more abrasive :)

- I genuinely loved this one - not sure about the audiovisual fidelity (it does look a bit flat and untextured and while I love the little John Williams references in the music it does feel like a 4k soundtrack stretched out to 64k) but for a 64k not only to have an actual character-based story, but to pace it well and to be able to _emote_ it so well is remarkable.
