wonderful! maybe slightly underrated by the voters at bp, but the 3:rd place is not bad at all in the best amiga democompo for years.

further and further. some folks like water, some folks like the wine, but i like the taste of straight ephidrena. (and most bp04 demos would deserves 1st place anyway.)

The Amiga compo at BP04 was a battle of titans - the fact that this stunning demo got 3rd place is proof enough. I did like the MaWi+Susp demo more, though.

My favourite demo group on the planet, the music is as always fantastic and fits the demo very nice, loaderror keeps improving all the time. A winner at any party, should have been 2nd if not 1st, but the visual impact of silkcut just made everyone forget that anything else excisted.

well, it doesn't rule as much as I hoped from seeing screenshots before :/ ... i defintaly like the rather dark admosphere and the look of the fishes. but I expected more of a main idea. the demo already kinda starts off lame when teasing attentition with a cool splitbrain picture but boring ppl again with a ride over some unspectacular surface that has nothing (conceptual) to do with the picture the demo started off with. excitement gone. especially those gory shots (read about the making) would have made a nice story or just visual idea -- much more than just putting up a few pictures like that. also the music is not catchy or atmospheric enough to keep up tension throughout the demo. it adds nothing much to the production, which is sad. there's no real surprise or interesting style or detail in this demo, though it is well executed and performs nicely. well done, guys, but lacking a little innovation, detail (besides the main effects) and excitement. too much plain "effect after effect" for me ... but nevertheless it is great to see a nice amiga production like that. seriously : ) !
rulez added on the 2004-04-27 05:16:46 by al_bolone al_bolone
There is always the problem of effects not really fitting with the theme of the demo. Different people have different ideas, and you cant really stop groupmembers from doing exactly what they want to do.. Eg..worst way to make a demo is probably to make one of the members dictate exactly what the others should do.. The result would be that nobody would do anything. This demo was supposed to be kind of medical in style at first since I had taken those pictures that we had never used. I had also coded the voxelroutine, which I worked a lot on to make fast enough. I really wanted to have the voxel in there, so I thought about the concept of some supersecret facility in the mountains doing experiments on humans ;) . Zixaq wanted it to have a sort of mental flashback style of paranoia style. Knowing all this, cheetah started to do some modelling in lightwave. He made a fish!!(which was so cool that we just had to have it in there) Then I said:"Maybe we should have another technological fish chasing the first fish(animal experiments in the mountains)", so cheetah made a shark, but the techno thing never got in there and the chasing sequence looked a bit like the fighting scenes in loonies' demos.. Now we have: medical images, mountains, a tune that was completely mad and wacky in a slightly humorous sense.. Zixaq decided to make a new tune that was more dark and scary one week before the party.. Cheetah moved to france and couldnt do any more graphics.. So far, the only thing we could agree on is that it should be dark and use blue/green all the way. SOOO here comes the explanation of the final result which ties it all together and proves that this is actually consistent content and design ;) ........... A guy who is struggling to stay alive in his respirator fighting some horrible disease in his brain. Once in a while he starts hallucinating that evil is coming for him (shark, voxel == bottom of ocean, and the last weird fish) (this evil is inspired by the sleeping hall at Breakpoint. One of the working titles was "Stories from the sleeping hall" ).. The lightrays are from the times when he is awake and sees various doctor stuff... He might even be in the secret lab in the mountains as a guinea pig. The spline effect is a projection of his brain-synapses overacting. He obviously is experiencing a lot of stuff and will undoubtedly have a few respirator stories to tell!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hah! David Lynch, go suck on a lemon!!!

loaderror: No need to explain, its all very obvious in the demo, i guess people are just stupid.

mad skillz. somehow i think the music is maybe slightly too repetitive though, but definitely rulez!

i dislike the music, but it have a coherent color sheme and design
i did not travel like loaderror can do in this world, it is not coherent for me, not linear and not speaking to me, it's like a cake done with too much things, hard to like puddings ;)
rulez added on the 2004-04-30 17:04:29 by psenough psenough
zone: cupcakes rule but puddings taste nice and mushy too

The respirator stories make perfectly sense, Loaderror. :) Nice use of the "morfologisk" images! Really impressive use of colors and together with the atmospheric music this makes a traumatic respirator story. Some really funky fish there too. Does maybe not have the same in-your-face impact as fake electronic lightshow, but it grows on you in a more subtle way.
rulez added on the 2004-05-04 17:28:17 by svok svok
Like FELS and most of our other demos, Respirator Stories is put together in a few days. "Hmmmm... two weeks to BP, let's make a demo". That's why it may lack an impression of a main idea. And the details to make it a really good demo.
As for the music, it should have been different, of course. The samples sounds terrible. I made most of the sounds in Reason. Due to little time and my fucked up Amiga, I had to resample the samples in FT2. Something I wouldn't recommend. Right after the samples was converted to Amigaformat, we had to leave for BP. So I put the tune together there, which is always a bad idea. I used Loaderror's Amiga and headphones. I heard there was something wrong with the samples, but at that time it was too late to do something about it. So I finished it and hoped it would sound OK at the big speakers. But it sounded terrible.
I could have worked on the tune for two weeks more, but had to stop at some point of course. 20 hours or so before deadline. Loaderror stayed up the last night to time it, and I joined in the last 8 hours.
As many other groups we made this demo right before a party. Except for Loaderror's code. Not the ideal way to do it, but the way it often turns out. :) Not an excuse, but an explanation of why the demo looks and sounds like it does.

Very unusual visuals and such a dark and atmospheric atmosphere. Excellent vision and direction. Music is simple, but effective and perfect for the job.

Sadly one of the only Eph demos I've seen as they're don't usually run with winuae, but I'd love to see more unique demos like this one...preferably in Windows format.
