seems VERY unfinished, but i was curious about it and wanted to see it, since it got 2nd.

maybe they will make a final/fixed to be added here...

Great ambience and the scenes with frozen in time-objects look fantastic.

My personal winner. Yep, those "frozen" objects rules!

i really loved it (though it doesn't even get close to "fresh!"). some said it's ugly. i disagree.

it IS ugly... but hey, it's 64k!

well, its dirtugly and so on.. BUT! what i heard, smash removed random data and flags to reach 64k... its nice someone is learning from the best!

Some very nice ideas. and hey, it looks very different from most other things (except other fairlight intros). good to see that at least one group can live up to it's name.

Has potential, but rushed and unfinished party prods always deserve a thumb down in my opinion.
sucks added on the 2005-04-03 16:35:09 by Shanethewolf Shanethewolf
dabb, you're a moron.

1) the exe is called flt_deathandtaxes_NOTWORKINGREALLYATALL.exe
2) the exe is 87kb

-> this isn't the compo version. this is a pre-version that got spread by mistake, since we handed the compo version in so late that ryg forgot to add it into the party system.
added on the 2005-04-03 16:41:15 by reed reed
Nice one, was my favourite in the compo. And yes, the frozen objects are really cool.

reed:
i didnt see dabb say it was a compoversion at all? just he was curious and waited for a final?

and anyways, if you score second at a party sized as breakpoint and got an executable out before you release a working version, you shouldnt expect anyone care about filename.. really :)
added on the 2005-04-03 17:05:39 by Hatikvah Hatikvah
So where is the compo version than uh? :)
added on the 2005-04-03 17:08:00 by magic magic
hmm... this is not the version we saw at the bigscreen. looks really fucked up on my pc here.

anyway, i'm REALLY waiting for a final version or something like an official version to be released soon.

this rocked so hard, the concept is fantastic, i really expected this for the 1st place in the compo.

anyway, no thumb from me at the moment, i'll wait. (...)

added on the 2005-04-03 17:10:58 by prost prost
®:
well i found it in the somewhat "official" directory on untergrund.net. i agree, i could have seen its not 64k.
sry about that. anyway, theres nothing i could do about it now, so someone should delete this prod or update the link to the official release!
added on the 2005-04-03 17:11:44 by dabb dabb
as stated, this is the one we uploaded on sunday morning to "get in the compo system", it totally didnt work (LOADS of bugs). it should never have been spread by the organisers, it was uploaded apparently by accident. we spent the day fixing it and made it to the compo with a better version. that was still dodgy, so i fixed a better one again this week, which is getting uploaded now.
hope you can judge it on that, not the one that should never have been spread.

ok boys and girls, download link updated - this zip contains both the compo version and a fixed version (still not quite final). leech away.

the zip on the breakpoint ftp servers is still the wrong one, we're getting that fixed. so use scene.org.

yep, now here is my thumb :)
rulez added on the 2005-04-03 17:42:39 by prost prost
+ Excellent soundtrack
+ Good concept & atmosphere - hello Tim Burton ;)
+ Some cool ideas
+ Good code

BUT:

- Ugly shadows
- The part with the cubes is very slow on my 6600 GT / Athlon 64 3000+
- Insane precalc duration with a mere blank screen
- As for the 70kb version, I simply ignored it since it's supposed to be 64kb, not 70.

No thumb up until a polished 64k version is released ;)

very cool!

Very different and original intro. Music perfectly fits the atmosphere. It is good to see someone tries to do different things in 64k category.
The cubes part was slow on my computer too and longest precalc i have ever seen..
But it rulezz , thumbs up...

It looked quite unfinished. Had some weak parts here and there. But I really liked the soul in it. Was the winner entry for me. But it could be way better with more "polishing"
rulez added on the 2005-04-03 18:14:05 by chock chock
I must admit I didn't find this intro too impressive at the party. However, it appears to work better if you're at home, and not totally fucked up by booze & jazz tobacco.

I liked the visual look and the cube-building thing, and the music sounds damn good for a 64k. The only things worth complaining about are the blindingly awful walking animation, some ugly shadows and the inexplicably slow first cube part. Other than that, good stuff! Looking forward to the final.

i guess its up to you if you choose for some moral reason to watch the 64k compo version not the 68k fixed version (which fixes a lot of stuff.. makes cube scene run a lot better, fixes the problems on the walk anim, tidies up a lot of stuff). the main reasons it's larger are a) i put back the setup dialog, caps checking, loading bar, actual working shutdown code and other "niceties" ;) and b) used better versions of e.g. the samples in the tune.
in fact, a bit more work would have seen it in 64k, but because the really fucked up version got leaked we had to replace it asap. sorry. =)

Nice code smash , nice to see something from the UK

BUT

5mins waiting for 64k intro to load/precalc
64k intro that needs 2ghz to run ?

Run on 2.8ghz p4 with 768 meg memory and seriously slowed down :(

Bring back demos that load within seconds , run full frame rate and dont need mega machines to run!

"Bring back demos that load within seconds , run full frame rate and dont need mega machines to run!"

Ah yes, back in the days when this was the whole point of the demoscene and when the demoscene had a point!
now you should appreciate that i managed to do a precalcbar in 4k :)))
anyway, do a final _and_ a video

I should fix Niels' comment. I think he meant to say that this was *not* profusely ugly. Not that it was completely gorgeous, though, but I liked the concept, the tune and the final shot.

And it certainly was more original than the other intros in the compo. Should've won.

Every prod that tries characters should get a really big bonus. Death and taxes should have won the compo.

+ character
+ passepartout
+ music

- long preload; shadow artifacts; double credits; end; typo
