hui...
this is my first intro since 1988 years on amiga ocs/ecs...

well 18 years is a long time... excuse me if it will not work on your
machine...;)

all effects are 2*2 16 color c2p... some have 1*2 16 color (fake)...
the entire intro was intended as a c2p speed test between amiga and atari st...

needs 1 mb chip... or at least 256 kb chip and 1 mb fast to fly...
there is a music selector ... just press 1 or 2 to select a song...

best views on a500/a1000 or a2000... (hope so ;) )

was real fun to code on amiga again... ;)

This is totally nice but I told you already, Ultra. :) Was nice to see you working on this (and helping you with minor things :D). Cool intro, I like it a lot! :)

The scroller is either too long or too slow.
Great effects and music :)

Seems like my WinUAE is fucked up or maybe me too, but i cant run it, even by puting the chip size to 1MB and stuff.

Really nice one Ultra! Great to see an Atari coder doing stuff on the Amiga.

Out of interest, what were your conclusions from the speed tests?? Amiga custom powa pwns Atari right? :))))
rulez added on the 2006-10-28 03:25:42 by button button
klipper ...
>Amiga custom powa pwns Atari right

not really or better amiga tried to get the st speed because of the custom chips...but amiga lost by far... here... sorry to say that....

maybe i used the wrong technique ;) but with these effects amiga was slower... but i'm still satisfied with the amiga speed...

great intro.

A video from a real A500 would be nice.
rulez added on the 2006-10-28 12:41:57 by Stelthzje Stelthzje
Hmmm... This one seems to bug heavily on my A1260/ppc. Have to disable the aga, and get only 1 frame for each tenth second on the effects. Only the zoomrotator, music and scroller works fine. Any idea what can be wrong?
added on the 2006-10-28 15:11:54 by Frequent Frequent
frequent: yes the code is full of movep instructions which are missing on the 060 and are emulated, it will be dog-slow.
added on the 2006-10-28 15:49:09 by evil evil
Nice one. Watched in emu though. Not on the real thing. The vertical gradient is a nice touch to the look..
added on the 2006-10-28 16:57:53 by loaderror loaderror
evl hm... but this doesn't explain why the rotzoomer works... all efx use movep... so this one be should slow too ?...

ok the rotzoomer is the only efx without a very big routine for the entire effect because of prestepping... very odd...

unseen... well face it ;) in newschool atari st do not suck...
st is in this direction much more powerful than amiga...
as you can see in newschool stuff in the past... they are much more impressive from code side intros/demos on st than on amiga...
that stuff i showed here is stardard since years on st...

but i guess this is not the place to discuss this... ;)

Cream rock big time!
Ultra is there any place (forum) to discuss about 18 years...?
What is the best OCS/ECS demo with 'new school' effects? (just to compare to ST demos :)) )
rulez added on the 2006-11-23 00:29:49 by calimero calimero
Apart from the total lack of consistent design, this is actually quite cool. Well done!

Works perfect on a 030. 18 years is too much time without Amiga! Stay with us ;)
rulez added on the 2006-11-25 23:22:49 by Zener Zener
Welll ! It works on my Amiga 1000 with a simple 68000. The design and the zik are a bit poor, but this effects are unusual ! Congratulations !

Great c2p effects!!! I always wondered whether Amiga can do it too, since newschool chunky effects are still there to be seen on the 16bit Atari which still produces demos, while Amiga coders had moved to 32bits before showing if it's possible, but now it seems Amiga can produce equal good looking chunky effects (The bump is great and maybe even nicer looking and smoother than what I've seen on AtariST).

The code in this one is interesting, I think the trick with copper changing the colors is neat and works very well. Would be fun to know a little about what you are using movep for.

Btw, I had to disable my 060 card with "2" and make it a silk a1200 to make this one start.
rulez added on the 2008-08-10 01:17:19 by Pezac Pezac
hi pezac,

the trick is a normal atari c2p... as you maybe know the bitplanes on st are interleaved

1111 2222 3333 4444

with movep you can hold in a long all planar data for 4 bitplane...
so a movep writes the data to:
xx11 xx22 xx33 xx44

and so on... later the bitplanes are copied to amiga format...via the blitter...

but this is an old technique... i don't use anymore... new one is much better...

yeah... i know about the problems with 060 and stuff... i hope next will will be more
compatible

Obligatory coder-thumb, but C2P goals on ST and Amiga are different, I think. And also coder goals as in an actual display mode with enough time to render into in real time. Also some holy grails like 3x3 or 2x2 zoomrot, not yet achieved.

The C2P itself is great and of course it works on Amiga because the same CPU and reduced to 4bpl, some rework of the code to sane bitmap format. Inside donut is fake, requires ECS or 1MB fast. But a nice one that would have made me scratch my head for a bit back in the day. :)
