finally a scrolling painted picture again =) but it's way too unfinished and pointless. great graphics and music ain't that bad either.
added on the 2002-09-01 22:48:00 by robotriot robotriot
- Overused theme (flatshaded city a-like setting)
- cliche music (+ some sample(s) seem to be ripped from kasparov)
- somewhat pointless/unfinished (ok, only a preview...)

Ok, i won't start a discussion here...but it will be allowed for me to say a few things:

1. we said that this is a preview, which means that it not even is a 'party-version'. The final ccould look completly different (ok, if you don't like the style of the preview, you most probably won't like the final either).
2. yes, the scrolling picture IS unfinished as it has been done by pixtur within few hours (2-3 or so). we don't know if there will be a more detailed version in the final (or if it even will be left out, which was discussed by us, too.).
3. yes! it IS an overused theme - but not for us. Salva Mea is a 'young' group and before we start to rock your ass of we need to start somewhere.
4. yes! the music is cliche, but it fits that overused theme best. btw, all the 'kasparov samples' can be found on the sample kit 'Monsterpack (Data Becker (c) 1999), CD#8 [Effects]' files: '8mx00012.wav' - '8mx00017.wav'-

Thank You for reading my comment. Have a nice day.

hi, I just registered to do some explainations.
1. This is my first 3D-modelling and gfx for the scene EVER.
2. I DO like the music AND "Flatshaded City-like structure"-themes
3. Nero (who did another scroll-picture, you'll probably remember) is one of my best friends. I know that my image sucks and I hope he will forgive me ;-) (I'll meet him today.)
4. There seems to be a bug within the texture-allocation, which causes the textures and images to be scaled down to a senseless resolution on most computers. You can find a full-res-version of the image at http://www.pixtur.de/kassiop.eng.html
(In fullres. it might look even more unfinished). I pray for TB to work on this.

In so far, it was a nice little production for a party like the evoke.

ok.
it`s a preview.
then why stretch it to the limit.
nice and simple scene and models.
If there was a (part of) a story ... I just didn´t get it

hope the final version will be better.

ps:
the three second rule isn`t just for newcomers....

fascinating modelling, and I like the quietly creepy atmosphere. though I think the music could do without the kasparov samples - it just gives you a "have I seen this before" feeling which this demo doesn't deserve.
Looking forward to the final!

Some questions to that comments from anti and Tomaes:

Tell me please, which demo is _not_ pointless in your eyes and what to fuck is the three second rule ?

thank you.

Pointless was probably not the best fitting word. Should express somethin' like: "slow paced, unduly eventless, quite empty, uncertain style".
added on the 2002-09-02 15:52:20 by tomaes tomaes
boring like hell.

All in all a good demo. The sound creates a nice atmosphere, but the whole thing looks a bit empty and some scenes are a bit to dark coloured.
Reached the 3rd place in the compo btw

benjam: WHAT? the kasparov samples can be found where? now that's crazy...

Sorry, reached the 2nd place in the compo. Just mixed up the ranking with 'run away'

Just wanted to give some further reaction on what has been posted so far.
1. As far as I know anti, Tomaes and bbboy are notorious for giving very "critical" votes on pouet.net. Therefore I don't regard their opinion as relevant. Maybe they should consider not posting on productions...
a) ...that are not their favourite style.
b) ...that are not done by their favourite groups.
c) ...to that they have nothing but negative statements (we need constructive critique, just posting "this sucks/i don't like it" is lame).
2. what I tried to make clear with in my last statement was, that the "kasparov samples" are taken from a sample pack. And most likely the samples used in kasparov are from the same cds i use. so, there's no need to replace it...it's just a common percussion sample...like a 909 snare.
added on the 2002-09-03 10:17:35 by benJam benJam
Sorry, but I don't get this either. I could feel that something "should be" there, but it just wasn't for me.

Btw. If it's a preview - fine, but then don't release it. Otherwise it's no excuse.

Oh, and BenJam: so it's just "post if you like it, otherwise keep your mouth shut"?

As far as I know anti, Tomaes and bbboy are notorious for giving very "critical" votes on pouet.net

As far as I'm concerned: Yes, indeed, critical. Without quotation marks, please. And in "fukkin' sibjective style" of course. That's what pouet is all about.

My average rating is somewhat +0.3, so there's infact a lot I like and vote for. Furthermore I gave this an "ok", so what's your point? Do the final version and probably you even get an "up". I just wanted to give you some hints where to work on. If you find that offensive, well ok, as stated some lines above, you don't need to read anything.

In general some people are just a little too choleric about everything here. Relax, take a cookie, have a glas of wine. Have a laugh. Don't take everything dead serious.

Off.

liked it. refine a little on some details, but that's why you call it "preview" probably :)

kassiopeia violates my windows. with an access violation. I use a gf2 Ti, and with 23.11 detonators I just get an error message. With 30.82 I get a nice blue screen. The 30.82 drivers failed my test and went out the window.

Funny, I never thought demos were so good to test drivers robustness...

I greyscale landscape with a red stucture and white space ship. A story? Maybe. Didn't care for the modelling, in fact it took silly ol' me a while to figure out what I was seeing. At first this seemed deliberate, but when the camera 'pulled away' the scene still didn't look too interesting.

And the scrolling image had some sort of vertical wobbling.

mmm..I guess if I was half-kut or severely intoxicated I may have appreciated it more....maybe change the name to 'Mobile 2: Destination well-known' eheheh...

Smooth as a baby's but though..and I like it more when I consider it's their 1st release. But FUCK preview versions and how could this place 2nd?? Toxical Overdose still gets my vote...k I'll shut up now ;)

Incoming Message to Fzool: What th...sorry bout that. I don't follow the C64 scene and would've easily missed your other two PC prods due to a 2 year absence from the scene. Don't be so quick to lash out against any pissy little mistake you find because of bad feedback. I never meant it to sound as offensive as it did...
ps. No hard feelings eh & lovely website btw...

Well, it crashes here as well! :-(((
It's showing an error-message shortly after starting it...
The sound starts playing though but if you click 'ok' in the error-window it exits at once.

So where is a _fixed_ version of it pleeeease!! :-/

wow, wow, wow. cool that so many people like this demo so much. We never expected that. That is really cool. And hell yeah we are working on a new version of this one. But as everybody else we must work to buy some food and power for our computers. Maybe you want to pay us, for making Demos? No ? Hm :) So please wait some weeks for the final. We want to port it to our new engine, which supports more GFX Cards and bugs like that. Man, i wish this would be a C64 Demo, no problems with the Hardware ;). We will fix all the bugs, and when not, the bug is a feature as usual. Ofcourse. Please send some fanmail in form of Bugreports to Tb^Salva Mea. The Email Adress you will find in the good tasting Note called Readme.txt. Thank you. And sorry for my fucking bad english.

wow! cool demo. salva mea will rule soon!

but why release it in such an unfinished state? and the engine is so slow, i though it was some silly software rendering. pushing that amount of polys should be straight forward.
added on the 2002-09-06 12:32:49 by chaos chaos
chaos: this is realy old code ;) the final version will have a brand new engine. but this engine was not finished at evoke, but will be finihed (hopefully) in some weeks or month. We want to release the "preview" at evoke, because evoke is a great party, and just the "preview" makes the 2nd place, this is so cool. the final version will feature a lot hot new stuff :)

Yes ,in the first minute it was truly interesting. The music fits ,and the picture is amazing. But if you'd like ,i'd be pleased to give you a few hints to the scheme of the city itself ,because its still a bit too small...

Could have been a thumb up, but the "thank you" at the end turned it into a piggy.

Nice enough to look at, but nothing special. The object movements were really jerky even though the framerate was quite high??? I'll leave the thumb until I've seen the final.

benjam: what's the point of releasing something as a "preview" ?! why not wait till you have a party|release version?
macaw: why not "preview". We wanted to release something for evoke, because after evoke there is no party for us. Maybe Mekka in some Month (The Party stinks, Dialogos canceled, etc) And some people like this version. and hey, second place for a "preview" version. we never excpect this. watch it, or wait for the final. it´s so easy.

hello scene people. we must delay the final of kassiopeia because the complete demo team is also organizer for the tUM*o2 party. So we are busy with organizing the Party and we are also doing a PC Invitation for it. Sorry for that, but we are only humans ;)

Listen up, pleaze!
We are searching for a guy capable of running this production and making a hi-quality divx version of it. Since actual systems won't run this anymore and there's nobody willing to fix it.
If you're able to give us this divx, you'll get free entrance to tUM*o4! Write me an email...

hmm, nice stuff after all.
but what's this "actual systems won't run this anymore" all about? It appears to me to run quite well with newer hardware / newest drivers as long as you just use either win98 or the win98 compatibility mode.
rulez added on the 2004-10-09 06:23:40 by mizc mizc
boring, too much low poly, no textures
benjam : it runs on my 'actual' system (win2k geforce4200ti)
ok here is the final hint to run this demo under windows xp:

1.) Find the executable
2.) Right-click the icon and select Properties.
3.) Click the Compatibility tab and place a checkmark next to the text labeled "Run this program in compatibility mode."
4.) Select the operating system Windows 98

that should work.

Nearly 5 years since ...
It is still one of those demos that even after years set a tremendous impact on me, mainly due to its combination of graphics and sound. I really like that atmosphere.
In the last days the wish to do a fix/final/sequel (call it however you want) grew more and more in me. So maybe ...
Still waiting for a final version, any hope for a release?
