I love the graphics and the motion capture(?) part, but I doubt the greetings needed what seemed like 15 minutes.
rulez added on the 2014-10-26 16:03:25 by Gargaj Gargaj
Very impressive looking code there. The quality of graphics varied, but that group logo must be one of the best I've ever seen on the 64. All in all great, of course.

While the manic codework prize might need to be handed to Booze this time around, this is a more complete package out of the two. Still very intermittent as seems to by Oxyron's style, but still managing to keep up the flow, slightly better than Comalight 13 even. If the style of multipart megademos on this platform needs to continue, this is the way it ought to be done. Few of the effects/screens were to damn good they literally look like they were pre-rendered in after effects and post processed to look like C64.

Holy shit, what a Demo (with capital D!). Awesome graphics (that picture after the credits part = jaw dropped), excellent effects and great music. And nice humor too, the "Comadance" part really made me laugh, sooo great! :)

watched it again. damn. such nice/great c64 demos always look like they were made with extra much love.
Didn't run on vice but did run on ccs64. I am waiting for a good capture of this. Or maybe buying a new C64 :)

It has some epic moments. More newschool 3d, great wireframe, great rescue on fractalus reference, great texture cube and way more. I love the dancing stickman on rotating plane. It's so simple yet so effective. The final digital sound/greets don't sound well on ccs64, so I really wish for a proper youtube capture. Oh and the graphics where lovely!

Fuck, this is awesome!

Great show, a lot of WTFs while watching it. My favourite part is that swan lake + cube, the music fits for me perfectly. Ofcourse the flying bee part is remarkable too, not mentioning that texturemapped cube. Damn fine work in every department!

The demo shows us a lot of time spent in R&D, coding and arranging things. That's the virtue that present on C64 scene and absent on today's ZX Spectrum. Maybe we need our X instead of 10 fastmade parties a year? Or maybe we should ban conversions?

Some amazing code and art in here, but I thought the design wandered a little bit & just wasn't quite as tight as it could have been. It plays like a DJ battle, I was watching through thinking 'that's an Oxy effect, that's a Censor effect, now Oxy again, etc...'

And the greets ran way long, but is that a 4-channel MOD playing? Awesome stuff.

Don't get me wrong though, loved the demo anyway. A couple times i literally shouted 'what?!' at my screen as an effect came on. Nice job guys.
rulez added on the 2014-10-28 05:42:39 by jmph jmph
Awesome demo but lacks design, in my opinion. It shows enormous skills and amazing effects and funny use of graphics vs sprites. Yet, I would like a smaller and more comprehensive demo better. Anyhow it's absolutely a thumb up.
rulez added on the 2014-10-28 08:22:53 by w00t! w00t!
What other already wrote: Some great art and code, but it feels disjointed somewhat, a bit like if you asked 20 different people in different places to make a single demo part for a demo that has for theme "nature and bees" :)

and yes... long greetings are long.

People who say that "Comaland" is not well designed mean to say that they cannot see a single unifying theme to hold this hugely impressive collection of effects together. However, I disagree. There is a single unifying theme here and it is called "excess". This demo is too much of everything. Too much graphics, too much attention to detail, too much obsessive polish. This is a demo-making equivalent of Dubai. And while it is easy to come up with criticisms for various aspects of this demo, the truth of the matter is, this is a massive shit-load of hard work and one just cannot help but gets carried away by the thrills offered here, even if these are thrills of a Disneyland roller-coaster.

Excellent Demo! Worthy Winner!
I really like how you put some elements from ComaLight13 in there, like the bee and the boat! :)
Graphics are a bit mixed, from good to excellent.
Musics always fitted but also made the impression of single screens again. You should only use one soundtrack for the entire demo...which can vary in style ofcoz...Andromeda Software Development showed how this can work (on PC tho). That wouldnt break the demo that much, the flow would keep up!
The Code is ace once again...especially liked the dancer, the mountain/bee-flights and all those superb transitions!
Will still be watching this when i am stone-old!

"Maya, wo bist du?" -> Mein erstes Handle auf dem Amiga war mal für ein paar Wochen "Willi", wegen dem, fand ich witzig! ;) Bevor ich MayDay und später cOcOOn hiess! ;)

Superb stuff. I especially like the Censor/Oxyron pic posted above, stunning! And lots of awesome, mind-blowing and original effects too. Fantastic!

I agree with Gargaj about the greetings part though, way too long, something that really plagues the C64 scene. And this time you can't reflexively excuse this with "loading/precalcing in the background"...
