I guess ~650 megs is a bit too much for regular users... recompressed version, anyone?

very funny

yaaaaaaaaay! damn great. not that "scenish" but could easily take it up with pixar & co.
rulez added on the 2003-08-26 12:27:57 by dipswitch dipswitch
Wow! Probably the best quality realease the scene has seen!

The modelling, lighting, animation, the sound, all were extremely good! Story too! yes, it does come close to pixar :)

I'll recompress it to a smaller size for the bandwidth impaired if anyone has some space to host it.

It has a very high Wallace & Gromit factor imho, but that's never a bad thing for anyone.
rulez added on the 2003-08-26 13:16:06 by Shifter Shifter
psonice, recompress and put it on scene.org as well, incoming/party/2003/evoke03... it'll eventually be moved to the same dir as the big one.
and yes, it's very well-done, although not insanely funny ar anything.
rulez added on the 2003-08-26 13:28:12 by bhead bhead
First of all it rules.

But secondly I have to say that I don't think it's nice to release productions like that at a Demoparty. I guess this Anim was made at work and it may even have a commercial background. I further think that this prod was also (or will be) spread at some Short-Film-Festivals. So I dunno what to think about that.

Dönci still rules , tho +_~
rulez added on the 2003-08-26 14:04:49 by elend elend
elen: sure. but what is a "wild" entry for a demoscene? That´s the question. My entry "undo" is also more a music video clip. Not realy made for the demoscene. I just want to release that so people can download it ;). btw: and a lot of Film-Festivals sucks. I don´t want to release my stuff there ;)
added on the 2003-08-26 14:42:08 by diver diver
I've dropped the resolution a bit (to 320x240), put soundtrack as mp3, and compressed it a bit further. Still 41mb, but it's a bit better than 630mb :)

Uploaded to scene.org, so it's yours as soon as the scene.org admins pull their fingers out (filename is egon_and_donci_320x240.avi - divx5.04). If anybody wants a still smaller version let me know, but be warned: the quality starts to suffer at lower res/bitrates.
added on the 2003-08-26 14:43:55 by psonice psonice
Well sure it suits the Wild compo. But I think the Animatrix Episode - Flight Of The Osiris would be lame , too as a wild demo entry. That's what I meant..
added on the 2003-08-26 14:51:12 by elend elend
I don't think it's so commercial as animatrix etc. It's not based on any commercial IP or advertising anything (and there have been demos with both before now).

Videos made by sceners have long been considered fair game for the wild compos, and as long as the entry is not an already released high quality anim, entered into the compo just to win some prizes, I think thats ok. i think it would be better to have separate anim and wild compos where possible tho, to separate the usual videos from the real wild demos (exotic hardware etc)
added on the 2003-08-26 14:58:23 by psonice psonice
pretty damn goodlooking

too goodlooking to be made by sceners
rulez added on the 2003-08-26 15:12:19 by ileaardbei ileaardbei
Very high quality.. Wild entries usually don't interest me that much, with a few exceptions of course, and I can easliy say that this is one of them. Possibly the best release at Evoke.
rulez added on the 2003-08-26 15:53:12 by a_lee_n a_lee_n
I was VERY glad to see another wild-demo entry by Aenima again finally!!!
I saw their first one called Tension #1 release at Flag 2002 which impressed me a lot already back in the days!!

Their overall style and animation capabilities is simply _outstanding_ !!!
This one really blasted me off when I saw it at the big screen!
Great style, Great animation, Great story...VERY professional all over!!

Get it goin' guys! I wanna see LOTS more from you in the scene-future!!! :-DD

*SMALLER VERSION*:
And as certain people already asked here:
I've uploaded a re-encoded divX 5.05 1800kbit with mp3 192kbit version to scene.org yesterday! (Basically even before psonice's version! ;-) )
It's ~147 MB and 99.9 same quality as the original 650mb release! ;-))

So now there should be enough alternatives for everyone haveing slower connections for downloading this great anim! :-D Have lotsa fun, pals!!

(But well, it's still in the upload-dir and waiting for being moved to the final evoke-directory!)

Weasel: I was wondering where that version came from :)

thumbs up alone for being a completely rendered wild entry yet NOT being boring as fuck :)

psonice:
;-DD And I was wondering where that 42mb release suddenly popped up in the upload dir as well...when I looked today to check if my upload got already moved! ;-DDD
Oh well...same thouight and work...at the same time I'd say! ;-))

ryg: oehm..well, guess your thumb has been cut off then (at evoke!) ... as I simply can't see it here in your comment's bottom line... ;-DD

High quality meets fun, simply kickass!

40mb version is now available.

Weasel: Slightly different plan i think... looks like you cut out the uncompressed audio + turned the bitrate down... I guess i should have done that too :) But I thought a smaller version for people with slow links would be nice instead :)
added on the 2003-08-27 11:20:51 by psonice psonice
And Weasel's 140mb high quality version too!

Just to make it clearer:

Original download link is 630mb 'ultimate quality' version (640x480, divx)

Weasels 140mb version is almost exactly the same quality, but has mp3 audio and perhaps lower bitrate?

My 40mb version is cut down to 320x240, also with slightly lower quality mp3 audio for smaller download.

psonice:
Yep...you got it right! :-)
Thanks for posting my version as well !!
Should give everyone now _all_ possibilities to enjoy this cool prod whichever way someone would like to! ;-D

Yep..my version keeps still the original resolution and just cut down the audio as mp3 192kbit stream as well as the video bitrate from (crazy and heavy ;-) ) ~7500kbit to 1800kbit...

Thanks for all those 'alternative' version now!
This surely helps many people in the end! :-)

...btw: chris, will reply to your mail as well shortly in the next days! ;-)

Wow, Pixar quality indeed! And a script Nick Park (Wallace & Gromit) would like! And a Project Genesis reference too! And funny!
This gets my thumb even though I can't keep the visual synchronized to the audio

this is incredible.
although it surely has commercial background - there is the name of a company in the greetings, but i think as a wild it is okay...
rulez added on the 2003-08-27 22:51:29 by FooLman FooLman
fantastic !

looks professional, but it´s NOT a professional release... the brothers (adam & dani, tik nem vagytok normalisak !) are seeking for a job... they told me in hungary it´s very hard to find a job... omg, with those skills ???
this was first shown @ evoke zoo3...
so, if someone knows a company who needs some skilled 3d-artists ?!

WOW!
absolutely professional pixar-quality funny wallace&gromit space-odyssey video!

Adam and dani shall come to Germany asap. They'd get a job immediately. So when it's really done without a commercial background (which means, it was done at work and/or for a Company and several Film Festivals) then I have to give them another thumb up. Kudos !

awesome! Coup de coeur instantané! :)

the scene is fortunate to be the first to see this gem :)

i'm pretty sure the genius bro won't have any difficulty to find jobs in animation or game bizness with such a "demo" of their talents ! maybe not in Hungary (but why not ?) but surely in Europe (they don't need to be buttonholed by the US hehe).

Yep, SIGGraph quality again. Obviously very Wallace and Grommit inspired, but even better in some cases (except that the cat looks rather mean in comparison :). Well guys, I think it's time to move out of Hungary and become legends.

This is better than most of the CG you see in professionally produced video and computer games. It could probably hold its own in theaters as well. However, I think the storytelling is a little strange, and their ability to capture a real sense of humor and comedic pacing is off. That's easy to forgive, though, since this is an independent production by non-pros. It's obvious that these guys have gobs of talent that should be utilized by the best CG houses... it's awesome that they create this stuff to be displayed at compos. Very cool design, light Bobby McFerrin-ish a cappella music, and a very cute cat... if that's supposed to be a cat. :)

a little bit of Wallace&Gromit but it's a nice clone
tempo is sometimes too slow, music is classical like on all those short-3Dmovies for Imagina festival
sad to see a reallife end title and nothing about demoscene or nicknames!

Changed the download links a bit, weasel's encoding is now the first link (since it is ~99% quality at 25% filesize of the original file), disk5 = the 40MB "preview" version, videolink = the original version.
really nice. the style reminds me of Wallace & Gromit, but I'd take that as an advantage. aenima are surely one of the greatest.
