Anyone got this working in Winuae? It totally crashes it when I try to run it. :(

somehow very cliché, but still very nice visually. i dont like the music at all, but it's only personal taste.

This demo totally rules. I love it. Should have beaten the Pegasausage demo, IMHO.

!!! got to watch this again at home, but i think their was a lot of original effects in this one, and a perfect design.

Iris rules!!! I did liked it somehow, design wise or so..
rulezcdc added on the 2004-04-16 12:50:16 by Optimus Optimus
Very stylish demo, the code is tight as hell and the music and graphics fits very nice togheter. This demo suffered alot from the very blury big screen at BP, have a look at it at home and to see all the details.
rulez added on the 2004-04-16 12:50:50 by bonkers bonkers
It'll never beat Tinnitus or Quest, but it's
another nice Iris demo after Light2. :)

Dr.Doom has taste of design and timing; he'd proven it once again, would be a loss if he would leave this amigascene!

The demo itself has nice effects, semi-nice music, and it's fun to watch for a lot of times.

Too bad that some details on this demo were lost thanks to the lame VHS-taped amiga-compo at breakpoint; they should really stop this, cos it looks ugly on the bigscreen!

And no Pegasos demos in the amiga compo please, this demo could have top3.

wade: yeah, ran fine here.. i'm assuming you have the latest version off winuae.net. maybe you need setpatch.
added on the 2004-04-16 19:17:11 by phoenix phoenix
Thank you Phoenix. Ran setpatch and it worked. :)

Really fine demo indeed! A little too much black for my liking, but other than that a really fantastic show. Fast pace, excellent artwork, great music and slick routines. Keep it up!

It doesnt work on my amiga.. Amiga with Blizzard III 060 50mhz 16mb RAM, Setpatch 43.6, wb3.0... It seems to crash before the copperlist is set.. Theres loads of mumbojumbo on sreen before crash.. Any libs used?

added on the 2004-04-17 17:29:49 by loaderror loaderror
Same problem here. Apollo 1260/50MHz 16Mb Ram. Shows a lot of trash before giving up and showing the Guru Meditating... Strange really, as Light 2 ran really fine. Damn, i want to see this prod on my Amiga...

Thank you for the feedback. I enjoyed making the demo, and I hated watching it on the big screen, for obvious reasons..

Those of you who aren't able to run it on your 16 MB machines - don't feel bad. The demo wants about 28 MB of fast RAM, and there wasn't time to include a memory test of any sort. It just assumes that AllocMem always works. Hence the crashes.

The demo was meant to run on 16 MB, but I was coding way past the deadline and just didn't have any time. I may do a 16 MB version which is also less eager to crash if your Amiga isn't fast enough (delicate timing tricks rule). I might even add all the parts that I had to leave out.

Anyway, this is most likely my last production ever, so please enjoy it.

Wow, I have just seen it for a second time (and fortunatelly it did ran for me without needing setpatch!), really cool designed stuff! But I cannot manage to watch TBL demo, or the half part of it, cannot allocate memory or something before the landscape (which is the only one that I'd love to watch again)
added on the 2004-04-20 18:12:22 by Optimus Optimus
I'm not being silly, Dr. Xeron, I've just come to a decision. If the scene were just a waste of time, that'd be alright, cause that's what time is for. But I feel it's become much worse than that.

I've delt with PPC productions in the Amiga compos for years now and still contributed to MS/BP despite what I saw as messed up compos. A Pegasos demo is beyond what I can deal with, and my disappointment in the BP organizers (who I consider to be the people most vital to the Amiga scene right now) is more than I can bear.

Heartcore was a lot of hard work. I could live with no reward, but the way the compo turned out, it feels like I'm being punished. So.. I'll continue to be present and do various things that are scenish, but no more serious stuff.

Oh, and I do admit that this is an emotional decision. I'm only human you know.
added on the 2004-04-20 22:24:46 by doom doom
In the end, isn't it what the audience thinks that count. Isn't it more important that the people actually love with you do? You almost singlehandedly brought IRIS to the top of the Amiga demoscene. The quality of your work is fantastic. When i think that this demo wasn't even finished and lacked a lot of effects because of lack of time, god knows what the end result could have been.

You've got the talent to make wonderful demos that people love. God, i wish i had half the talent that you have. And we people interested in amiga demos, highly anticipate and really enjoy your works of art (because that is what they are).

I even bought 32Mb Ram just so i could run this demo on my Amiga.

But then again, i'm just a bloody no talent lamer so how should i know and understand.

I second everything that z5 said.
added on the 2004-04-21 00:58:14 by xeron xeron

I'm sorry for you being disappointed.

Regarding the big screen quality of the Amiga competitions I'd like to point out that there was no easy alternative to doing SVHS recordings. As you know the Amiga compo required quite a few different configurations/system. It is impossible to hold such a compo realtime without causing huge delays (which the audience wouldn't like). We have to pre-record it, and up until now SVHS was the only afforable solution.

For next year we will try to switch to digital recording equipment, this is on top of our list.

Btw, another problem regarding the Amiga compos is the lack of people willing to help out. Prior to BP we were searching for compo organizers for the Amiga compo without any luck. TB, who did the amiga compos, was totally overworked with other things.

Regarding PPC and Pegasos: We are open for discussion. But please keep in mind that we had *3* entries in last years Amiga compo and were already thinking about dropping the Amiga compos - in that situation it would have been a really weird idea to split this into 3 competitions.

And even now as the Amiga scene has proved its alive and kicking, this is no easy decision. Where should we put Pegasos entries? Into the real wild compo? Probably other people will be pissed again then. Same goes for PPC.

Regarding the reward: Your biggest reward should be that the audioence loves your production.

As said, we are open for constructive discussion on this topic.
rulez added on the 2004-04-21 01:34:53 by scamp scamp
scamp: you could have put the pegasos demo in the mac compo, even though it's slower than the mac compo machine it's more similar to that than a 060/AGA machine. About the VHS recording, you could have ran all 68k demos first and then the accelerated ones, how much time will that take 10s to reboot an amiga. And a few min between 68k and acc. This also would have made it more obvious what hardware the demo was run at aswell.

The thing is I thought most non amiga sceners knew about 060/ppc gfx-card and such, but then you read in some party report that the ppl think that pretty much everything was ppc in the compo.

Dr.Doom: as I said before your demo was amazing and you were definetly the one who suffered most from the bad setup of the compo, it would be realy sad and a big los for the amigascene if you stoped coding.

I love it, I love it, I love it, I love it, I love it, I love it, I love it, I love it, I love it, I love it. I love this demo again, I watched it again and I want to buy a real Amiga and Iris is my favorite Amiga group by now. But I guess, if he wishes to quit, he will do it no matter what he says, so this discussion is Pouetish, perhaps he will try to code something diferrent, like games (more fun!) or anything. Yey!!! =)
added on the 2004-04-21 14:17:48 by Optimus Optimus
Optimus is right, if I want to quit, I'll quit. Like I said, it's an emotional decision, not a rational one - so no point in arguing.

BUT, I do appreciate all the feedback. It's really touching. And thank you, Scamp, for your reaction. I was really missing some kind of reaction from the organizers - any reaction really, to show that you care. And apparently you do, which means a lot. So woohoo.

Anyway, I'll leave myself inactive and concentrate on my studies for now, and maybe my creative urges will grow stronger than my distaste for the so-called evolution of the Amiga scene, eventually.

Again, truckloads of thank yous for the feedback. Please enjoy the demo some more. I'll see about that 16 MB full version soon enough.

DrDoom: I know how you feel, but there's always the PC scene. :)

Either way, I sincerely hope you won't stop producing gfx. You impress me more and more with everything I see from you.

"Optimus is right, if I want to quit, I'll quit"

And if I want to be annoyed if you quit, and be vocal about that annoyance on pouet, i'll be annoyed about you quitting, and be vocal about it on pouet. Fact is, you're very talented and I want to see more quality demos from you, and so do all these other guys!

I said it at Breakpoint and I'll say it again: Iris came to motherfucking PLAY. This demo owns, like all the Amiga demos from BP. And yeah, I'd like to see more demos from y'all, but they're your demos so take whatever time you need to do 'em.
Excellent. I sure hope there will be more demos from Iris in the future :)
