Yeah, very nice! First when I saw a new 4kb procgfx from RGBA I thought 'which party did this one win?' ;)

Video looks amazing, judging from the time it took to render the image from the .exe I'm guessing we need about 100-1000 times speedier hardware before we get to see it in realtime (or faster code perhaps... ;)

at first i wanted to thumb it up like any one of you, *but*, personally i'm getting kind of tired of seeing the same basic trick (albeit gradually improved and applied with some artistic care) improved and improved.

bring us a kickass realtime alternative now iq, the time has come.

I have to agree with Niels here.

I'm sure it's phenomenal what you coders have achieved in this category, but for a non-coder like myself it doesn't mean much.

At least if you make it move and put it into an intro it will have the same technical appeal, but also entertainment value, which can't be a bad thing.

megacool shapes! Another killer proc 4k gfx!

@sdw : where is this video you are talking about?

Realtime? It took ~half a minute on my machine to make that one frame. So the algorithm only has to be 900 times faster for 30 fps.

Very nice visual effect. The AO here is just great. Video is really great, love the camera movement. Distance functions are the new polygons. Im scared to think what the scene will be like when this stuff is real time. Great work.

how about serious multicore support?
rulez added on the 2008-10-09 13:16:40 by xeNusion xeNusion
xeNusion, thx for the tip!!!!

In the last minute I hard-coded the intro to single core so I could work on the PC while rendering, and then forgot to put it back to "n cores"!!!!

I will recompile and upload tonight. I tested this in a 32 cores machine last Tuesday and it was scaling linearly. So thanks for noticing, and sorry!

how about releasing a 64k artbook - that would fuckin rule.
added on the 2008-10-09 15:17:47 by Gargaj Gargaj
yep, it's one of those things in my to-do list, cause in fact the last three gfx share around 2k of common code, so I could fit the three of them in 8k probably...

blueberry, yep, I told Mentor that indeed it looks quite like haumea, although one should really compare to Tom's work.

and indeed it's probably time to change to something else than DF, it starts to be boring somehow.

xeNusion, I updated the zip file with the correct exe, the multithreaded one :) Now those with mulicore machines will see a huge difference in speed.

For those wondering about speed, I'm quite sure this can be done in nearly (if not) realtime too in the GPU. Don't take the rendering time in this exe as reference to make conclusions about "realtimeability" of the technique.
