Chaos Constructions 2006(26-27aug) - can you visit Russia?

category: general [glöplog]
There are many demosceners around the world, and many demoparties also. And I hope everybody knows about Russian scene. But still a few number of europeans visited Russia.

We invite everybody to Russian demoparty Chaos Constructions 2006. Feel free to ask any questions to me and org's team via e-mail.

And small question - what's the main difficulties for european scener to visit Russia?

Even tho Russia is pretty close, it still feels like its on the otherside of the globe. Also, when I hear Russia I think of corrupted people at the border trying to rip you of etc. I bet it isnt so, but still, thats the images I get in my head when thinking how it would be like going to Russia.

Im also scared I wont find any food to eat while at the party. Oh, also, Ivan with a ak-47 asking me to hand over my computer is a downside too :(

Oh my God! I agree, people on borders still corrupted, but other things (Ivans with guns ;) were at the begin-middle of 90's, now the situation is much better, criminals mostly under control (thanks our president). Also, Saint Petersburgh city is often visited by tourists, it's "cultural capital" of Russia, as we say.

I want to tell - such sceners as Paul Pyromaniac, Setok, Nosfe, Gasman, Viznut visited russian parties, and they were "stars" of the parties, I mean everybody talked with them, and helped with hotels/e.t.c. So, the problems of food and other things will be solved fast.

You better to ask these guys, I'm sure they will agree with this words.

I get the feeling that IF something would happen to me in Russia, I have nobody to turn to. Call it prejudice, if you wish, but I'd feel safer being in Germany or Finland than in Russia.
Also, I don't like the way neo-nazism is spreading in the post-Soviet states.

Of course, anything can happen while visiting foreign countries. That is why it's better not to travel alone, but with friends. And of course, better not to walk during night time, daytime is better for viewing sights e.t.c.

actually, i haven't visited any parties in russia yet. though, i have visited st. petersburgh a couple of times, and i must say that it is an extremely cool city, which is worth to visit even without any parties. and i recommend warmly for everyone to go to cc and stay some extra days to visit the numerous sights in that city.

and damn me for leaving towards iceland just one week before cc this year. :(

also, a hint for traveling to st. petersburgh: you can get a bus ride from the center of helsinki for 10euros (!) per direction. so, it's only 20euros for a return trip from helsinki. of course you need to get a visa also, which will be around 50euros or so, depending a bit where you get it from.

nosfe, I'm sorry! There were two finnish guys on CAFe2002 demoparty in Russia, and one of those guys was Setok. They said, that they are orgs of ALTparty. It's my mistake, I will check who was the second guy.

I learned "русский язык" at school but this was years ago... why there is only a small page translated into english and the button is something like blinded out? I thought they want to attract foreign sceners?

Pardon me, but I don't think I'd like to go to a russian demo party... I'd rather like to go to an ελληνική demo party, (And meet Optimus) that would be teh shit.

My wife and I would love to come to St Petersburg. Raynoa can you recommend somewhere wife and child friendly to stay that isnt costing huge amounts? A web link in Enlgish would be the best for me. Thanks if you can help.

Well crap, I posted something and then Pouet went 'boom' and all that.

Anyway.

What, do _I_ have to go to a Russian party just so you see it's ok?

Fine. Next year, Accession is going to take the "Trip to Chaos Constructions" (clever 'hip' name coming later.) and you're invited. So not only do you have the invitation from the Organizers of Chaos Constructions, but you have Accession's invitation to get your ass there with US. And you know that if anyone is going to be scared, it's going to be people looking at _US._

Yes more information will come at a later date after I figure out how the hell _I_ am going to get around certain issues with certain things that could affect people at home.
actually, one thing that might be problematic for foreigners to attend your party, is that it's always colliding with either evoke or buenzli, which will have the attention of most of the middle european sceners. and finns have assembly right in the beginning of august, which usually leaves us all hangoverish and bankrupt for the rest of the month at least.

anyway, i might be trying to do some concert trip to russia before i go to iceland, if i do i hope i'll be able to meet some sceners then.

russia is weird, trashy, chaotic, but overall quite fun. if you're not afraid of being a bit 'away from civilistaion' for a couple of days, come visit us, maybe I'll overcome my hatred for st.petersburg and join you for a beer or two on cc as well... 8)
