- Does what it says on the tin. Small thumb for cool instruments (and overall enjoyable albeit cheesy music) and the runes.

- demo Amiga AGA Neonsky by Ephidrena
- On one hand: new eph amiga! On the other hand a bit mild on every departhment... effects/visuals, design, audio. A lot of clashing and bad palettes, though some good as well. Little synergy with the music, just random effects. I dug the music for the first half but then it just lost its grip during the second, though this was partially because of the slight mood change which wasn't reflected in the visuals. Feels like a "B-sides" collection from various other demos.

- demo Windows Terminal 7 by Cocoon [web]
- I'm a bit torn honestly... again... The engine still obviously rules*, but I can thumb up the engine itself only so many times. Nothing wrong with the graphics either, in fact most of it looks spectacular. I can't even fault the colors or color grading this time, ace all around.
My problem is how all of the content is used. The cameras either don't make much sense or are utterly dull, just rotating around the subject placed on center of screen or flying directly forwards. Then there's the flying through the tunnel with jarring flashes and cuts. The penultimate scene with the ribbon formations is superb though, almost alone redeems all faults. The hyper fast pace is somewhat refreshing too, though still by far my favorite recent cocoon demo is pretty much the antithesis of this.
I'm also not a fan of the mirroring at all. I get it though, I use it too, but I don't think it does justice to the visuals. I feel the trick works best when you abstract it away well enough so that the underlying visuals become indecipherable, but here it was just from time time time slapped on top.
The audio didn't do anything for me. Just cheese in one ear and out the other. Not a bad track in its genre though, I've heard far less memorable examples.
All in all big thumbs up for the graphics work and overall visual quality, and for now a large "meh" for the presentation side. Might change in the future, but I'm too irritated at the moment. I do enjoy this quite a bit more than the Revision demo though.
(* well, if it worked, I don't recall being able to run any of the modern Cocoon demos, all crash with a segfault or something similar) - isokadded on the 2016-07-18 00:27:15

Good ideas with connecting the visuals and music. Very lovely sine chords, pleasant abstract broken landscapes.- rulezadded on the 2016-07-17 18:04:47
- 64k Windows Dead Ringer by Fairlight [web]
- Obviously a lot of good shit...
BUT... some pretty awful looking textures and shading (the corridor for one), and for that matter the texture filtering. Not sure if intentional or a technical or design choice/limitation, looks decent at places and awful on others. I absolutely hate the FFT shaking camera and texts... can't imagine it looking worse without it, or just using some simple function for something similar. I can't stand it either way. Not my favorite Fairlight 64k from this era.
Other than that, don't have much to complain though. A few really neat looking scenes, cuts and camerawork. Reed delivers hard like always. Don't feel there are any consistency issues, it's just a collage of back-then contemporary graphical motifs from this particular hiphop/urban/alternative school of design. - rulezadded on the 2016-07-17 17:17:02

Protip: DO NOT share or even store any crinkler compressed executables in your Dropbox public folders. In due time you will lose your public link privileges because Dropbox takes them away indefinitely if they find any suspicious files there (i.e. if even a single detector at virustotal.com deems so). This has happened to a lot of folks, including myself. You need to contact their support manually to get public links restored, this ban is not temporary despite the message.
Also regarding the intro, have to say the shading is mostly pretty dull looking phong despite the SSS. Fresh ideas anyway, thumb stands. - isokadded on the 2016-07-17 14:22:43

- Second most enjoyable Megadrive demo after the 32x tape I remember. Some things are best kept simple.

- This is how I like my 8-bit demos, nice good looking effects, solid design and graphics work, reasonable pace, no scrollers. Music wasn't really something to write home about but did its thing well enough. Perhaps a personal favorite from the compo.

- Super cool! The 2D elements are really special for this size class, and the transitions are just lovely. Very bold choice for audio, certainly a lot more interesting than your garden variety scenepop. One of the best 4k intros in recent years.
