- demo Amiga OCS/ECS Mental Hangover by Scoopex [web]
- This production truly changed the way demos were made (catchword: trackmo). Moreover, the stencil vectors are cute. But somehow this production never captivated and set me in an excited state. Don't know why. Maybe it is because of that noisy and psychopathic music. On the other hand and in case it was composed to match the title of the trackmo, then it is a masterpiece and my compliments for the interpretational creativity. It definitely feels like a mental hangover. Thumbs up for the invention of the trackmo.

- demo Amiga OCS/ECS End of maloy by The Silents [web]
- ... a production from the past I can vividly remember because I
watched it a lot. The dynamics and moves of the scroll are great, and
this is my favorite piece of code from the prodigy Mr. Perfect; the
underlying principle is similar to MMM's / Dexion Megademo II, isn't it?
Moreover, the logo and overall design are appealing and - needless to
say - the music is just awesome! All in all, a capital production - or in
other words: Mr. Perfect, Mikael Balle and Jesper Kyd -> this can't go
awry. My opinion: This is an all-time classic. Lovely! - isokadded on the 2021-04-09 11:14:32
- demo Amiga OCS/ECS megademo 8 by Kefrens
- "Kill Victor" by the legendary Promax is my favorite part of the
Megademo. The blue cube and the green space ship - awesome! And
indeed, the objects were really big and impressive for that time. It
really motivated and pushed me into writing my first own filled 3D routine.
The music by Nightlight is great, too. The drums and the bass are very
well arranged and are groovin' like hell! Moreover, the simple and
catchy melody conveys a kind of easiness and is leaving enough room
for the main actor - namely the BIG vectors. Lovely!
By the way, what was so special (see comment of Hannibal) about the
line drawing routine? - rulezadded on the 2021-03-27 13:09:38
- 64k Amiga OCS/ECS HSDV2 by Damones [web]
- I am lost in translation and still do not grasp how it is done in detail.
Please, could you Britelite or someone else be so kind and explain that a
bit further - maybe with an example? And what are the pros and cons
in comparison with a conventional rotozoomer? Thanks in advance.
Cheers. - rulezadded on the 2021-03-25 13:52:19
- demo Amiga OCS/ECS Grade My Waterbear by Scoopex [web]
- assumption: 4 bpls, texel width 4px
I just grabbed a piece of paper and a pen and sketched down an idea ...counting...counting...counting...oops, the width would be 200px like for "Grade My Waterbear". Could it be that four adjacent sprites in the middle of each line play a key role?
During the night I did some more thinking and figured out a slightly modified variant having a width of 208 or maybe even 216px.
Just some more loose thoughts:
Lets assume a rotozoomer with a texel width of 2px, 4 or 5 bpls and a height of maybe 100px.
Would it be feasible to code a horizontal (= in x direction) copper interlace in order to double the width? That is, the first frame displays the odd texel columns with bitplane information that are separated / interspersed with empty spacer texels at the even positions. And the following frame is then displaying the even texel columns with bitplane information whereas the odd texels are now empty. I guess it stands to reason that this will cause a flickering like for the usual interlace mode. But could this be mitigated and prevented by switching to the next frame and its copperlist and by setting the beam position (writing to $dff02a / $dff02c) to the first line of the next frame as soon as the last rotozoomer-line of the previous frame was displayed? Or is this, like my former boss liked to say, pure bullshit? - rulezadded on the 2021-02-23 17:36:48
- demo Amiga OCS/ECS De Profundis by Lemon. & The Deadliners [web] & Oxygene [web]
- @Leonard
I appreciate your tech talk in the credits part. I want more of that!
By the way, may I ask how many frames (=glenz vectors) do you queue up?
Moreover, I appreciate your view that both machines, the Atari ST
and the Amiga, rule. I always found it childish that both camps were
full of disgust and fought each other (like C64 against CPC). The few
and very smart Atari ST coders I knew seemed a bit envious - or
"frustrated" is maybe the better word - since a couple of things were
much easier to realize on the Amiga than on the Atari ST; "the
opening of the screen borders" on the Atari ST, as they had called it,
seemed to be a science in itself. - rulezadded on the 2021-02-17 13:58:58
- demo Amiga OCS/ECS Animotion by Phenomena
- I love that production. As far as I can remember (maybe I am wrong
- see below) this is the only demo from Celebrandil I came across
back then in the good old times. After all these years it is still
enjoyable to watch (the raytraced animation and the space cut
vectors are among my favorites) and I still remember the name
Celebrandil. He is a sorcerer and genius!
Moreover, the music by Mantronix and Tip is great, too. A very nice
melody that - despite its melancholic touch - cheers me up and sets
me in a good mood.
But I need your help: I thought a room based
on filled vector gfx (with bed, tv, table...) that is rotating around its
y-axis was part of this demo - like the one that appears in a modified
version in Quartex's Substance). But I can't spot it in Animotion and
obviously my memory is deceiving me here. So my question is:
Which production (I am 99% sure it was from Celebrandil) contained
that mysterious room?

- demo Amiga OCS/ECS Marchewki by Alchemy
- mayday, mayday...
Does anyone know the secret behind Vico's dot (-sphere)
algorithm/routine and is willing to share it? I am so curious since Chaos
and Hannibal were so wild about it. Is it a kind of (pseudo-) c2p and / or
does the x-flag play a key role?
Thank you pals and ntscs :-)
By the way, this is truly a palatbale production. Very nice! - rulezadded on the 2021-02-05 15:56:03
- demo Amiga OCS/ECS Cebit demo 90 - Revenge of babbnaasen by Red Sector Inc. [web]
- The return of Delta, Dr.C, Dark, and Romeo Knight, and ... the juggler. Awesome! Although many of the objects need more than one frame, the movements still look fairly smooth. But it would have been great if they had designed some more "animated" objects like the helicopter with the rotating blades or the space-ship with its segmented and beating wings that move along a sine wave.
Maybe I am alone with that perception, but watching this production - despite its sweetness - somehow drags me down and sets me in a sad mood. Don't know what's wrong here?!
Something different. Once I phoned Delta when I dared the step from non-filled to filled 3D vector graphics. Although he did not know me and I was a nobody, he patiently answered all of my questions and even told me some useful tricks / hints. Eventually he wished me good luck and a lot of success. What a nice person!
By the way, what is that for a brown creature in the title pic? - rulezadded on the 2021-01-01 12:39:56
