nice idea, but i guess it was kinda rushed with the deadline. left me curious to see further developments of this "technology" applied to something else

I like it! somehow reminds me about 'Aphex Twin - On' -musicvideo

Small comment before watching: EEEpc. Finally a demo that will run well or at all in my not eeepc PC! (should buy a new PC naturally and get one of these sub-babes too)

Way better than the Farbrausch demo utilizing the same idea. Great track too, and the demo actually runs on my ancient PC! Rulez.

it has atmosphere.

I suppose the whole point was to integrate the 3d with the background, but it kinda failed for me. The bright jaggy edges might be a reason.
The atmosphere is there though.

nice short scenery clips combined with simple 3d objects. the subtle shadows/reflections were a nice touch. could probably be done on amiga too. :)

Not much more than an object show over ultra low quality scans.
sucks added on the 2008-09-22 18:34:41 by Wade Wade
Lovely music. I like the low resolution background graphics but I think the 3d objects do not really fit in. The 3d objects look like they have been put in there such that the whole looks more like a traditional demo. Perhaps this works better without the 3d objects.

Classic concept, nicely executed...
rulez added on the 2008-09-22 20:28:53 by Stebo Stebo
great atmosphere. gives that unnerving feeling that something isn't right - the 3d looks very stuck on top - but the reflections and shadows make it work

unseen, weyland: thats odd, i love my kingdom and didnt notice the connection o_O

wade: i can get why you dont like minimal stuff, but you could atleast recognize that post effects on video are a tad more complex to implement then post effects on scans..

bruce: uh? the objects do stand out too much but without the objects the demo would have no meaning at all

I didn't realised they were using video footage, but this lowers my opinion even more. The videos in the data folder are full colour and not so bad quality, so all this demo does is reduce the quality and make it flicker.

I'm convinced this could all be done with stills much more effectively.

If you had 5% of the fanbase, emails and job offers I get for my "pathetic repaints" you would not consider it such a waste of time.

You really need to stop being such a baby. So, I expressed a negative opinion on a Pouet release, it's no reason to have a hissy fit and start (trying) to make personal attacks.

People are allowed to express their opinions you know. That's what the thumb up and thumb down boxes are for.
added on the 2008-09-24 11:52:58 by Wade Wade
Also, don't you see the irony of trashing me for "repaints" when this production is a rehash of a FSOL video?
added on the 2008-09-24 11:55:12 by Wade Wade
Dear Wade,

nothing personal, but one of us is commonly recognized as a talk-much-do-less-troll here, and the other is not. In fact, many consider you thumbing down something as a sign of something worth to see.

I consider this demo as a tribute to "My Kingdom", as well as to "On" from Aphex Twin, whereas i consider your repaints being, well, repaints.
added on the 2008-09-24 12:34:08 by kurli kurli
If it's nothing personal, how come you aren't insulting all the people thumbing down the latest MFX demo?

So, when coders use reference it's a tribute, but when painters use reference, it's a repaint. Sounds like hypocrisy, but if it works for you that's fine. btw I would be interested to hear of another way of painting portraits. Any suggestions?

I don't think it works as advertised. The shadows are neat, but the objects seem to be too low-poly and uninspired and just don't mix very well with the background.

The cool thing is that it really runs on pretty much every old(er) pc, so at least, there's no need for a video. :)

Yes: not copying. Coming up with something that's entirely made by you, not just functioning as a slow camera. As a side note, this demo isn't the best example of use of imagination either.

I'm ending this discussion here, as i see that we clearly have different views on what can be considered as art and what can't be.
added on the 2008-09-24 13:11:07 by kurli kurli
it is good and atmospheric demo and i do not see the fuck any reasons to thumb it down.
and hey, remember that it's low-end demo, so please stop talking about aliased polygons and low quality etc

well i absolutely love aphex twins track "On" and the music video to go with it, this couldve been so much better imo, somehow i dont like this and somehow i do like it, probably because im comparing it directly too much..

At first i didnt like the small 3d objects, but then i realised they served the purpose of giving better effect and sense of scale to the last 3d object which contasted the size, this big 3d object looming over landscape/video i would have like to see a bit more of, creepy and weird, here's your thumb :)

Well mr. "my greatest achievements in demoscene are a few topics opened in pouet", if you'd learn to read someday you would realize that the talk was about mfx's demo. Or are you calling mfx's demo a "mediocre rip off tribute"?

The idea of mixing real-life scenes with demo objects is definitely worth a thumb. However the execution of this idea doesn't really appeal to me, especially the hard edges of those objects...
