A little short. Music is quite slow in the beginning but than for a short while some trance. The 3d scenes are unbelievable. Quite a breathtaker on the big Screen I
can imagine. So I guess thats why it won!
GOod work! Buzka :)

Rulez! Far less kitschy than YFGOMS.

Great shader programming, great use of HDR-rendering, great scenes!

But makes me want to buy a faster gfxcard.

doesnt work.

does it need v2 shaders?
no problem at all on ATI Radeon 9550. Amazing (!) modelling and textures. Very good soundtrack. But... TOO short. And size is huge.

The bright Scene Rocks. Hey, grab you all a new gfx-card. That's sad, but match the compohardware and stop complaining (that's what Comporules are for). If you want stable Hardware buy an Amiga or C64.

That's your story. Me, I saw the kind of statues that my grandmother would put in a glass cupboard for decorational purposes ;)

Anyway, lots of shiny models in a 3d player show, the really pretty rendering doesn't make up for the lack of events. Not my cup of tea.

And next time, test your shoit before releasing it hmmkay?

the shaders just rocked, the scenes were soso (not my taste at all) and there was very little action in them
flyby=>thumb down, visual quality=>big thumb up
in the end it's a thumb up

ok we're back after 15 hours of trip. First of all: party just rocked, orgaz You're awesome. I've met so many fantastic people and that was the best birthday present that I could get :).
As for the demo. I didn't want to release it but my friends knocked that idea from my head. Well As You can see the demo is unfinished most of design synching and mastering has been done at party (not including the engine). So You can realize that I havent got any time to check it on any other card than mine and the X700 that was in a compo machine. Today I'll get FX5200 from my brother so I'll make a quick prefinal version with some easy bugfixing. As for the final, we'll try to reduce the size of that shit and add two more scenes because the original soundtrack has 4:04. I think that 2 weeks will be enough to fix everything and speed up a little (engine is totally unprofiled and runs mostly on STL stuff so don't expect it to run fast (I used STL because without it I could never finish it in 40 days (starting from "int main(){return0;}".

Ok couple of thanks:
witja - well i think that this demo is really his success - cheers.
xen - for making all the stuff at the party.
cdnalsi - you rule! (this is the first tune by cdnalsi made for demoscene - Romanian scene rockz!!).

Ok so stay tuned, I'm going to finish this demo as soon as possible and maybe then I will start to like it.

P.S.
MFX demo was better. I really wanted to meet you guys at the price giving ceremony (I think that You had to catch the plane - so CYA next Time)

P.S2
TBL demo was the best production at the party!!

P.S3
once again - the party really rocked - we'll be there next year but we'll bring finished (and more compatible) demo then.

ok leech the patch http://kolos.math.uni.lodz.pl/~plastic/demo101.zip

It is a fix for NV 5 series cards (haven't tested on series 6 (so info me if it still not working).

Anyways the bug on NV was pretty big and I had to precalculate some stuff on ATI and put it in exe (about 12KB). I hope It will work for You.

Ok some answers to previous questions:

about the name - originaly it was 155/95 (my preasure measurement for the last week ;) ) but I made a mistake when uploading it from Ryg's computer and that's why it Is 195/95.

The meaning of using HDRI probes from debevec site is that they're completely free to use and are still the best. (give me a digital camera with ~180 degree perspective and I'll do it my own HDRI's.

The final version will be totaly different starting from 2:20:300.

Ok CYA have fun - and report any more bugs.

added on the 2005-03-31 13:55:20 by bonzaj bonzaj
Oh well. Nice Models. Nice Visuals. But it's just like... one scene after another. It has no real demofeel to it. :/ I hope that'll be fixed in some later final version.

Still doesn't work here, on a 6800LE with latest WHQL drivers. When the progress bar is at about 95%, it just becomes one big memory leak, I killed the process when it was using nearly 2 gb of memory.

Ok let's make a summary It was tested on FX5200 FX5900 and it works. it crushes on FX6 series. I must get that card from somewhere. (I've already got 3 gfx cards lying on my desk - but I still haven't found nobody that lives near with series 6).

As for ATI - it will run only on drivers 5.1 and higher (it makes strong use of GLSL).
I've checked some:
9700 PRO
9500 PRO
9500
X700
X700 PRO
9800 (my friend updated the drivers)

I've removed one simple hack bug for ATI's, but I heard that It crashed on Omega drivers. Any more issues?

Thanks

Worked on my gf6800gt, but I'm not sure if it was meant to look like that - I haven't noticed HDR and one scene was 100% black backround with 100% white mesh, so other scenes could have been rendered wrong as well, because everything looked more or less like textured meshes with envmap added. I'm waiting for video (or yet another patch/release).

Good to see Polish demogroup in action (am I right?).

btw. Is this demo named 155/95 or 195/95?

I really love the modelling and visuals, totally :) . but it's a little too much 3D flyby for me. Also please replace the typeface in the final version. This clumsy put serif font (times?) annoyed me in "your fingers so gently ..." already and ruins the overall visual beauty big time.

the terribly blocky glow and shadows really ruin the fucking excellent visuals on some scenes. i've not a very big clue about the technical issues about that, but if modern hardware doesn't support bigger texture sizes for that purpose, don't do that kind of shit. nice tune, too.

added on the 2005-04-04 20:27:46 by psenough psenough
ps: thanks I'm gathering all the info about compatibility that I can get, and X800 pro was untested till now :). As for the name - the explanation is somewhere above in my comments. Now I'm fighting with NV6600 - and I've got a major problem in fixing that bug - but i think I'll manage to do this in couple of hours.

shane.v.2. and everyone else asking for a video: Bonzaj politely requested that no-one made a video-rip of the partyrelease, so of course we won't. Right?

shane: Fortunetely ryg has written that he does not support OpenGL right now :). But because of the response and so many requests I will make a video of party version :) - but first I must fix that NV bug and believe me or not - I must wait for a guy from GLSL-Support@nvidia.com to reply my mail. This memory leak while GLSL linking is well known NV bug, so I must wait for that d#@! tip how to handle it in current drivers :)

ok here's the patch http://kolos.math.uni.lodz.pl/~plastic/demo102no_shadows.zip for 6600 (it also resolves most of the problems on ATI's).
Couple of words from me:
I had to remove shadow maps in this version. It seems that using 5 samplers in GLSL caused this weird memory leaks on NV. so I decided to temporarly remove 5th sampler (which is shadow map :) till I receive a resonable solution or this is fixed in future drivers. And ...
NV series 6 cards do the job!! the demo runs suprisngly fast on 6600 (not GT with AAx2 and anisox8) and totally rocks with 8xS antialiasing (choose 16 samples) this is AA quality that i haven't seen on any ATI card yet (I haven't checked that price X850 XT PE yet - coz I don't have PCIe right now).

Have fun. And now I'll patch rest of the plastic demos because none of them actually runs on series 6 :D. he he he

plastic is by far my favorite group of late.

one thing: there're lots of artifacts in reflections (and any indirect texture lookups). have you tried getting better filtered textures using derivatives in the shader? also, a higher res HDR image might do the trick, but i'm not sure where to find any other than debevec's...

perhaps this is the way pc demos really should look these days.

however, im not convinced on the quality of all the models (apart from the few models of people it seems quite generatorish, even), and someone wise told me that you should never trust it when everything is just envmapped, it smells of being too lazy to texture it all. =) also, taking the maps from devebec, using nice but fixed lighting calcs that really limits how much can move (and not attempting any tricks to get around it), a lot of stuff which is basically "standard" ms/ati/nvidia example shaders and fx..
it adds up to a demo which is really beautiful as a series of stills, but has some limitations overall. i'd like to see you take it further and do something really _clever_ and new next time.

oh, very good music and 2d gfx.

Shane: in case You don't know it - it's all like loaderror said there's an internal switch in latest openGL API "GL_SHINNY_SHADERS_ARB;" of course it's a token for glEnable.

ok I'm uploading patched version now (fixed that issue with non Administrator account). This will be the last bug fix for now. Please understand that there is a variety of configurations on the market and taking care of 70% users with required config and using OpenGL is a big task for me. I just want to start that Evoke demo right now, and not fixing that shit for the rest of my life. I don't know when the movie will be online. I just found out that half of the rendered frames is corrupted, so I think I will render rest of them on ATI card. So I think that the estimated time of releasing the movie will be about midnight.

Cheers - and thanks for nice comments :)

I really loved the party version of this demo and I couldn't wait to see the final version. Now I have seen it, and I am totally disappointed. Two of the three new scenes are almost exact 1:1 copies of "candytron", except for the glossy look. For that reason, the party version is much better than the final one (in my opinion, at least). But it's still a thumb up, though.

+ I think the scene of the pink petal is ugly as hell, and also is veeery slow, but as a transition to something nice like the next scene is.. well.. it's ok.

Regarding the new additions

+The scene with that kind of "clock" was very nice, why didn't you mixed the new scene with that one?

+The new scene/girl looks a little bit boring, the music is faster, yes.. but the camera movements are a bit.. outofthemood..

+The new scene with the ball going by the tube is very nice, nice ball model, reflections, shadows, motion.

+Looks like works much faster now, thx for that.

Overall is a wonderful piece, but i would be sourpised of myself if i watch it more times.

very beautiful piece of art. extremely nice models - maybe a bit too static (apart from the great tunnel/ball-scene). the music is outstanding. i like the fact, that it's quite uncommon for a demo track.

Sorry, but this demo is boring to death, technically it is very impressive work on nowaday hw, but there are no motion, only objects and rotating camera around them, all scenes looks like they are ripped from some waxworks museum. Music is cheap try to do some OST, like "Mama. look I am making music like Hans Zimmer does"

Piggie, do some motion and transition next time !
amazing music, unbelievable atmosphere, beeeaaauuuuutiful models and objects! especially the final version is incredible!

WOOOOO!

nice graphics, but takes too long to load + it's boring

Somehow, these fixed scenes are fascinating, mostly due to the mix between the very highly detailled objects and the surrounding emptyness. Music fits very well in the begining but tends to be in disharmony by the end. A rulez, yes, but all in all, I prefer the remake by RGBA.

Well, this prod rulez mostly for being first with the now called "Plastic marble statues" and for the awesome music. The final was a stretch upwards.

Make demos, not 3ds loaders...
Even if I forgive the fact that it's a 3ds loader, it STILL is boring...
Congratulations to the modelers

It's not a fucking 3ds loader meeen :P. Check the files. Will you manage to overcome the beauty and modularity of .pa files? I think no. You'll see on Evoke that it is not a simple 3ds loader. meeen.

I like the demo and the music is really great, EXCEPT for the faster part in the middle that is so unnecessary and almost ruins the demo

demoish or not, this is insanely beautiful. Perhaps my favourite score yet in a demo: and i assure you that's a big call. The music is incredibly well orchestrated, appropriate, and mastered.
Lovely if odd modelling... and a most absolutely beautiful finishing on effects.
Despite its short length, i think it says a lot. big thumbup.

Stunning 3D models, really beautiful pictures and the absolutely best HDR stuff I had seen up to this point … and it has a great soundtrack of course! Hurt me – but in front of the bigscreen I like it more than “aether” – even if it was short, unfinished, not synced nor really compatible and much like an object show.

I adore Plastic's style. The symphonics of this soundtrack is really huge and everything is really beatutiful. Basically it's an object show but the modelling have been done with such artistic skills that it's really an art show. One of my favourites.
