okay, that's pretty annoying :) Considering my anti-ipod stance, there's no way I can see this.

I can only counter the incessant whines for the Limp Ninja releases: VIDEO PLZ K THX

So why is this platform "Ipod" and not "Linux" ?
added on the 2005-09-11 20:37:19 by Hatikvah Hatikvah
cuz linux needs an mmu, and the ipod doesn't have one.
cuz osX demos aren't under 'mach'
cuz it runs on a freaking IPOD (:
congratulation, you did it first!

What is uClinux?
The original uClinux was a derivative of Linux 2.0 kernel intended for microcontrollers without Memory Management Units (MMUs). However, the Linux/Microcontroller Project has grown both in brand recognition and coverage of processor architectures. Today's uClinux as an operating system includes Linux kernel releases for 2.0 2.4 and 2.6 as well as a collection of user applications, libraries and tool chains.

pohar: .nfo file, dude (: It says how. (No, seriously, that's what I used to figure it out. It wasn't hard. Even Stefan could do it, if he wasn't busy trying to make a misguided point.)
Stefan: seriously, the ipod has no mmu.
ah, this is fuckin' awesome!

very nice but i think iPod linux was around for quite a while, i wonder why no one else made a demo for it yet. The iPod screen is a bit blury, isn't it? Or maybe it is just the low quality movie :/
rulez added on the 2005-09-12 22:04:20 by Lupin Lupin
This almost didn't get shown in the end, the compo time had almost expired and I asked gasman whether his demo had been recorded yet - apparantly a few attempts were done with phones (which I thought would have been terrible, what with it's horrid GSM audio compression, 176x144 video resolution @ 12fps iirc), so I scrambled to find someone with a webcam, so I made a lighting rig out of two pieces of paper behind the camera, and sat the ipod in the middle of a roll of boxing tape and filmed it into Windows Media Encoder after running around trying to find a decent interconnect and levelling the audio out.

So, the video isn't perfect, but you get the idea and I'm damn we managed to get what we did to the big screen. Many many props to Gasman too for the excellent demo! :D

why not ipod mini?

Because that's a girl ipod ;)
added on the 2005-09-15 10:50:50 by Shifter Shifter
You can *probably* get a working ipod mini build just by changing the two lines in podfather.h that it tells you to change. Unfortunately this screws up the SDL version of the framebuffer code (because it naughtily assumes that the horizontal resolution is a multiple of 4, I think) so without a real mini to test on, I can't say how crap (or not) it will look.

I've ported this to the PS3, download here:

Yeah, I don't know why anyone would want to run this on their PS3s, but it was a fun and easy thing to port as I was learning PSL1GHT...

PKG is for Jailbreak devices, people running on 3.55 custom firmware will probably need to run the PKG through some tool first to get it to run.
